The Organization: Hivos is a Dutch non-governmental organisation inspired by humanist values. Together with local organisations in developing countries, Hivos seeks to contribute to a free, fair and sustainable world in which citizens - women and men - have equal access to the resources and opportunities for their development. And where they can actively and equally participate in decision-making processes that determine their lives, their society and their future.

The Support: Hivos is funding a three-year blueEnergy project to strengthen blueEnergy's operational capacity and to bring energy, water and communication services to three communities, with a special focus on gender issues.


The Organization: INATEC, that National Technical Institute of Nicaragua, is charged with building the technical capacity required by the nation. INATEC is a government agency but is outside of the Ministry of Education.

The Partnership: IPCC-INATEC, the Bluefields Campus of INATEC, is blueEnergy's primary partner and is the site of blueEnergy's shop. IPCC-INATEC and blueEnergy have worked in close partnership since blueEnergy's arrival in Nicaragua in 2004. blueEnergy provides IPCC-INATEC with renewable energy training, tools and backup energy for the school while IPCC-INATEC provides blueEnergy with tools, shop space, and transportation services.


The Organization: Scoraig Wind Electric is small boutique wind turbine design company based in the UK.

The Partnership: Hugh Piggott of Scoraig Wind Electric is the original designer of the wind turbine that is at the heart of blueEnergy projects. Mr. Piggott has been a faithful advisor to blueEnergy since the very beginning. His website is a treasure trove for the do-it-yourself small-wind enthusiast.


The Organization: Otherpower.com is a group of small wind turbine enthusiasts in Colorodo that have contributed a lot to the designs of do-it-yourself, small-scale wind systems.

The Partnership: Otherpower.com has advised blueEnergy on turbine and system design issues since blueEnergy's early days.


The Organization: The Energy and Environment Partnership with Central America (EEP / AEA / Alianza) is a consortium of the Finnish Foreign Ministry and the Ministries of Energy and Environment from all the countries in Central America. The Finnish government funds the consortium which in turn selects ecological conservation and renewable energy projects to fund in Central America.

The Support: The Energy and Environment Partnership with Central America (EEP / AEA / Alianza) funded blueEnergy's pilot project in 2005 and a followup, expansion project in 2006/2007.


The Organization: The Tech Museum is singularly focused on inspiring the innovator in everyone it reaches. Truly hands-on and interactive exhibits, divided among themed galleries, offer guests a truly memorable experience. The Tech Museum hosts an annual, international Awards program that honors innovators from around the world who are applying technology to benefit humanity.

The Support: blueEnergy was named one of the 25 Tech Awards Laureates for 2007 and was selected as the prize winner in the Economic Development category at the 2007 Tech Awards Gala.


The Organization: The mission of The Philanthropy Workshop (TPW) is to create an active, global network of strategic philanthropists with the skills, commitment and imagination to make a significant contribution to pressing issues of our time. TPW values an approach to philanthropy based on the intellect, humility, creativity and will needed to foster social innovation.

The Support: The Philanthropy Workshop's Energy Collaborative arm has funded a blueEnergy initiative to convince the newly formed Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) of Nicaragua to accept small-scale wind power as a viable solution for rural and semi-urban electrification and to integrate this technology option into the national electrification plan.


The Organization: La Guilde is a Frech nonprofit organization that helps fund and place volunteers in international projects in the developing world.

The Support and Partnership: La Guilde has funded two small blueEnergy projects and more importantly has helped place many French nationals in volunteering positions with blueEnergy in Nicaragua.



The Organization: The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) is Canada’s lead agency for development assistance. It has a mandate to support sustainable development in developing countries in order to reduce poverty and to contribute to a more secure, equitable, and prosperous world.

The Support and Partnership: The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) funded a major upgrade to blueEnergy's shop capacity in Bluefields, Nicaragua in 2006. CIDA has also helped promote blueEnergy within Nicaragua by hosting a reception for blueEnergy at the Canadian Embassy in Nicaragua.


The Organization: Île de France is the government body of the greater Parisian region of France.

The Support: Île de France has funded two blueEnergy hybrid power systems in the Municipality of Pearl Lagoon in Nicaragua.


The Organization: The Edgerton Foundation is a not-for-profit public benefit corporation founded in 2001 to promote the well-being and general good of mankind throughout the world. The foundation supports public charities in the following endeavors: preservation of the planet's biodiversity; protection of human health and the global climate through wise energy policy; prevention of the spread and use of weapons of mass destruction; resolution of differences between nations that may lead to nuclear war; support of theater, dance, and music in Southern California; improvement of science, math, and environmental education in select schools; and technology innovation supporting enlightened public policy development in environmental and security policy by non-profit organizations.

The Support: The Edgerton Foundation funded a blueEnergy hybrid power system system for the INATEC campus in Bluefields, Nicaragua (IPCC).


The Organization: Solar Energy International (SEI) provides education and training to decision makers, technicians and users of renewable energy sources. SEI also provides the expertise to plan, engineer and implement sustainable development projects.

The Support: Solar Energy International (SEI) has provided partial scholarships to several blueEnergy employees and volunteers for their wind power workshops.


The Organization: The French Embassy in Nicaragua is the embodiment of the French government in Nicaragua.

The Partnership: The French Embassy in Nicaragua helps promote blueEnergy in Nicaragua and provides a cultural connection for visint French volunteers.
