Volunteer Application

WE ARE CURRENTLY FULL THROUGH THE SUMMER OF 2007 (ie. First opening is in September 07)

We have moved to a more formal volunteer selection process and only review applications four times a year (End of February, May, August, November). Under very special circumstances we can convene extra committee meetings, but this rarely happens. If you submit an application close to the date of a selection meeting we may not have time to review all your materials and conduct the necessary interviews needed to make a determination on your case - and a decision on your application may be postponed until the next committee meeting.

We make every effort to confirm the receipt of applications. Occasionally something goes wrong with a submission, so you are encouraged to save your answers offline in the event you need to redo the application. If a week passes without confirmation, please follow up with an email to volunteer@blueenergygroup.org .

If your online application makes the first cut, you will be contacted by someone at blueEnergy to schedule an in-person or phone interview. Our staff is very busy and the expectation is that you will be flexible in terms of the scheduling of the interview.

If you are selected for a volunteer position you will be required to download, print, fill out, sign, and mail in an emergency contact form as well as a general liability form. You will also be asked to submit a copy of your passport or equivalent identification.

Time Commitment: blueEnergy gives preference to volunteers who can commit to longer time periods. Commitments of less than one month are generally not considered unless the applicant has a specific skill that can yield immediate benefits for blueEnergy.

Desired Volunteer Location: blueEnergy accepts volunteers at the following locations: Nicaragua, San Francisco, France, and Work-from-home.
Where would you like to volunteer for blueEnergy?

Financial Commitment: blueEnergy asks all on-site volunteers (ie. those working in Nicaragua) to make a financial contribution to partially defray their living expenses. We have nice accommodations including meal service, laundry service, and wireless internet. It's not the Ritz, but it is much above average local conditions, and it costs blueEnergy a fair amount to maintain. We ask volunteers to contribute so that our meager funding can be focused on critical project work. The fee has two parts: first, a $300 (€~250) flat fee that is due prior to your arrival in Nicaragua and second, a $60 (~€50) per month of residence fee, payable on-site each month.

Skills: In order to determine how you can best contribute to blueEnergy's activities, we need to understand your proficiency in various areas. For each category, please rate your skill level (1-5) and provide relevant commentary. Language skills are particularly important as blueEnergy works in both English and Spanish. Basic abilities in these two languages are required for volunteers and advanced abilities are a big plus.
